Night time is a perfect time to rejuvenate the skin and combat the damage done by the sun as well as the hundreds of other factors that make the skin dry, wrinkled, and discolored. Each facial expression we make deepens the wrinkles on our faces and if we are serious about reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, we would be wise to use an effective night cream – something that plumps the thinning skin and restores moisture to the face. Here is what to look for when you purchase a night cream:
1. Peptides. Peptides are links of amino acids and permeate the epidermis and stimulate collagen production. Different peptides help the skin in different ways. Some relax the muscles that cause deep lines while others reduce the appearance of wrinkles by filling in the lines from the inside. When picking a night cream or a day cream that claims to treat the signs of aging, always look for peptides. Find a cream that contains a high concentration of peptides and at least three different peptides.

2. Retinol. Retinol is a vitamin A derivative used as an anti-aging chemical. It is absorbed through the skin and increases the rate of skin turnover. This provides a couple of benefits. First, it increases collagen, which gives a more youthful appearance. Second, it rids the skin of dead cells, increasing brightness and improving skin tone. Overall, peptides are more effective
3. Moisturizers. Moisturizers, also called emollients, keep the skin hydrated and full. When water is effectively absorbed in the skin, the face looks instantly younger. Effective moisturizers will hydrate the layers of the skin and fill in the dryness that is characteristic of old or undernourished skin. Moisture in and of itself will not do much as an anti-aging treatment, but when it is combined with more effective ingredients, it softens and plumps the skin, as well as improves tone and texture.

4. Non-Comedogenic. If you have seen this label on your cosmetics before, you can rest assured that this product will not clog your pores. This is especially important in a night cream, since you are putting on a more highly concentrated product and possibly in higher quantities. In addition to that, you should make sure that this product is safe for the skin and will not irritate your eyes. When you are sleeping, you will most likely toss and turn a bit, getting the cream on your pillow and potentially in your eyes. A product that is safe for the skin might not necessarily be safe for the more sensitive areas.
